At Automotive Lighting Exhibition China 2026, one thing became clear: automotive lighting is evolving from illumination to intelligence. In the era of software-defined vehicles, lighting is becoming a system for communication, sensing and interaction — from cyan signaling lights for autonomous driving, to immersive interior lighting and LiDAR-enabled perception. In an interview with Industry Sourcing by Ringier during ALE 2026, Alexander Hoffmann, Global Marketing Head Mobility & Illumination at ams OSRAM said, “the role of automotive lighting has fundamentally changed.” For ams OSRAM, this means going beyond components to co-create complete solutions together with OEMs and Tier 1 partners. Technologies such as RGBi, EVIYOS and the Open System Protocol (OSP) are helping simplify complexity and unlock new experiences for the next generation of vehicles. The method, called hydroxide catalysis bonding (HCB), creates a bond between an optical fiber and a photonic chip.
