We are very proud to announce that we are now the official holder of the “EUROPEAN CLUSTER MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE LABEL BRONZE – Striving for Cluster Excellence”, awarded by the European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA). We took part in the ECEI Cluster Management Benchmarking exercise organized by the European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA) of VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH. After careful research, the Silicon Alps Cluster was found to be fulfilling the “Eligibility Criteria for Cluster Management Excellence Labels”.
The European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA)
The European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA) is the one-stop shop for promoting Cluster Management Excellence through benchmarking and quality labelling of cluster management organisations worldwide. The Berlin-based organisation coordinates a network of around 200 cluster experts from more than 30 countries, which offer benchmarking and labelling services on behalf of ESCA. In addition, ESCA provides hands-on advice to cluster managers on cluster development and supports cluster policy makers and programme owners with advice on cluster programme development.
The European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis awards three different Quality Labels to qualified cluster management organisations.
ESCA is an offspring of the 2009 European Cluster Excellence Initiative (ECEI), a pan-European initiative by the European Commission with the aim to create more world-class clusters across the EU by strengthening cluster management excellence. ESCA was established in November 2010 by one of the 13 European project partners, VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH.
ECEI Bronze Label
The ECEI BRONZE Label “Striving for Cluster Excellence” documents the intention of a cluster management organisation to strive for excellence by improving its management capabilities and performance levels. The label is awarded upon fulfillment of two conditions: 1) the applying organisation has been benchmarked by one of the ESCA experts; and 2) the applying organisation fulfils the set of .
Each cluster organization is analyzed based on an interview of the cluster manager conducted by an impartial ESCA benchmarking expert. The interview covers 36 indicators with regard to the structure of the cluster, the cluster management and the governance of the cluster, financing of the cluster management, services provided by the cluster management, contacts and interaction within the cluster and achievements and recognition of the cluster.
Results are presented by an individual report to the cluster management and include also recommendations for further improvement in line with the requirements of the cluster quality label that is currently developed by the European Cluster Excellence Initiative.
When a cluster organisation obtains the ECEI BRONZE label for the first time, it is valid for two years from the month in which the interview was conducted. Up to one year after a valid BRONZE label expires, it can be renewed by repeating the same benchmarking process. The validity of the label is then seamlessly extended by three years from the previous validity period.
