“Cybersecurity meets RFID”

Internal innovation workshop of the cluster focus groups RFID and Cybersecurity

GOAL: On the basis of impulse lectures (presentation of the technical challenge in selected use cases), we would like to stimulate the exchange of experience and subsequently new cooperation on the topic .

RFID as front-end technology has limited framework conditions. In particular, the most mentionable: 1) Power – Everything is low-power (< 10W);  2) Small data rates to fit into the spectrum. < 100 bps, partly <10 kbps

2 applications / use cases are to be covered:

  • Contactless payment: High requirements, as a monetary advantage is immediately generated in the event of illegal activities. The attacks can be repeated quickly and as a result the damage can be very high
  • Road toll / road tolling: High requirement for energy consumption, since high range, fast communication, as the vehicles move quickly. Less potential for damage, as hardly anyone has any added value if a toll station is driven through several times within a short time. Medium damage potential when multiple users use a clone.

Meet & Greet RFID & Cybersecurity

Impulse lectures on the technical challenges based on use case examples:

  • Josef Preishuber-Pflügl and Johannes Lehrhofer (CISC Semiconductor)
  • Michael Jerne and Mario Lamberger (NXP)

Interactive Part: Q&A, Experience reports, User problems & Solutions

Next Steps for further cooperation
