Smart Manufacturing Technologies in Spot Light: Additive Manufacturing

The SpotLight events organized by the  group “Advanced Manufacturing” (Silicon Alps and AT Styria) generally address the following questions:

  • How to identify and evaluate proper technologies at an early stage -> technology radar?
  • Who can help to assess whether a given technology is interesting for the company?
  • At the enterprise level: how to find potential partner companies or research institutions that have already experience with a particular technology ?

The event on 4.06.2019 at the GPS-Ausbildungszentrum Villach provided participants with expert knowledge about the meaning and tools for the early technology assessment, while also ensuring a deep-dive into a hot technological topic: additive manufacturing. The mix of the keynote, best practice presentations and live experiencing the additive manufacturing infrastructure and processes has generated a lively and stimulating working and discussion athmospäre.

In particular, Gerd Hribernig explained in the Keynote the main concepts of the strategic technology and innovation management with a particular focus on some wide-used tools for the early assessment of technologies: Bibliometry (Gartner Hype Cycle) and technology radars: Living Technologies”. Wie Technologien entstehen, wie sie sich entwickeln und wie sie (fast) wieder verschwinden

The “Additive manufacturing” topic has been introduced by Gottfried Pototschnig, Head of the Training Center Villach in a captivating and unconventional manner, by means of the direct experiencing of aluminum and metal 3-D Druck in the newly furnished lab al the Ausbildungszentrum. See the presentation of the Training Center and its amazing training infrastructure here: Einstieg in das Thema und Darstellung der Ausbildungsinfrastruktur am Ausbildungszentrum Villach.

The next session has been dedicated to best practice examples of additive manufacturing at WILD and EU Project Funding possibilities:
Florian Aichwalder, WILD Group emphasized the main grounds of the company’s interest in and involvement with additive manufacturing (such as know-how building and construction of prototypes as door-opening argument) and presented some examples of projects and activities in this field:  Presentation: Additive Manufacturing am WILD

Daniele Cozzi, JOEANNEUM RESEARCH-MATERIALS presented some new and attractive EU funding and consulting opportunities for SMEs, with relevance also in the field of Additive Manufacturing: Project KETGATE ( www.ketgate.eu), Project KET for Clean Production (www.ket4sme.eu)

The event has been preceded by a short operative meeting of the focus group “Advanced Manufacturing”,  where the technological topic of the next event on 2.10.2019 and the further activities of the group were planned and discussed.

The next Spot Light Event of the group is taking place on 2.10.2019 in Styria. You are warmly invited to attend it, please mark this date!

Silicon Alps and AT Styria express warm thanks for the wonderful organization of the event by the Ausbildungszentrum Villach!
