How Marco became a Hero of Tech

After finishing my master, I worked in the National Research Council of Italy, where I specialized on electroceramic materials for piezoelectric and energy storage applications. Later, I moved to Japan to carry out my PhD in the application of Raman spectroscopy to electroceramics, which continues to be my core expertise. Since 2009 I work at the Materials Center Leoben, where I gained expertise on sensors, in particular energy supply systems for wireless sensor nodes. My dream is to realize energy autonomous sensor nodes for the Internet of Things. Such devices should be able to function indefinitely without any wiring or battery, enabling to sense virtually everywhere, thereby boosting the efficiency of industrial processes and environmental control.

My job has the perfect balance between basic and applied research, and I can always work for a goal, namely to create some new product or method that can be beneficial for the society or the environment. At the end of my career, I’d like to be able to say that I did something tangible, something good for the world, so I feel that the Materials Center Leoben is the right place where to fulfil this dream.
