Personal Greetings from Robert Gfrerer, Silicon Alps CEO

Liebe Partner*innen, liebes Silicon Alps Netzwerk!

Es gibt wohl kaum etwas Schöneres in einer persönlichen Laufbahn, wenn man nach vielen Jahren beruflich zum Thema seiner Ausbildung zurückkehren darf. Nach meinem Telematikstudium fühlt sich der Silicon Alps Cluster in der Vielfalt der Aufgaben tatsächlich wie heimkehren an. Natürlich nicht ohne Ehrfurcht, angesichts der globalen Jahrhundert-Herausforderungen, so ruhen doch die größten Hoffnungen auf jenen Technologien, die in der Silicon Alps Region entwickelt und vorangetrieben werden. Hier liegen unglaubliche Chancen, die wie wir wissen, nur gemeinsam ausgereizt werden können – bei den großen Herausforderungen ist der Schwarm immer erfolgreicher als der Einzelgänger.

Diese Chance haben wir als Europa, doch ganz speziell auch hier als Silicon Alps Region. Hier werden Arbeitsplätze geschaffen und Fachkräfte mit ihren Fähigkeiten dort spezialisiert und gefördert, wo sie in den nächsten Jahren am dringendsten benötigt werden. Hier werden Leuchtturmprojekte geschaffen und weiterentwickelt, wofür auch zuletzt massive Investitionen getätigt wurden. Letzten Endes treibt eine starke Silicon Alps Region auch die gesamte Branche voran.

Ich freue mich auch besonders auf die Aufgabe, die Brücke zwischen den Bundesländern Kärnten und der Steiermark weiter auszubauen, da ich aufgrund meiner Vergangenheit mit beiden Wirtschaftsstandorten und mit vielen der Partner*innen und ihren Sparten bereits bestens vertraut bin. Es gilt für mich und meinem neuen Team, beide Wirtschafts-, Forschungs- und Ökosysteme weiterhin zu einen, denn durch einen übergreifenden Wirtschaftsraum können die Chancen bestmöglich genutzt werden und so entsteht ein riesiger Mehrwert für die Länder, für Österreich und die gesamte Branche.

Unser Netzwerk ist bereits auf europäischer Ebene bestens vernetzt, auch durch Metaorganisationen wie der Silicon Europe Alliance oder EPoSS und auf Bundesebene ECSEL. Dadurch haben wir die Möglichkeit auch die internationale Agenda aktiv mitzugestalten, wofür wir die perfekten Voraussetzungen mit unseren Partner*innen in den Bundesländern haben.

Die Schwerpunkte der nächsten Jahre müssen also nahe an den Menschen gedacht werden. Die Weiterentwicklung der Regionen, die Sicherung von Arbeitskräften und Arbeitsplätzen, die Weiterentwicklung der Technologien und das Schaffen einer Kultur des Fortschritts und der Zuversicht.

Mit diesen erfreulichen Aussichten wünsche ich allen Mitgliedern, Angehörigen und Freunden ein frohes Weihnachtsfest und ein glückliches, zufriedenes Jahr 2022 bei bester Gesundheit!

Dear partners, dear Silicon Alps network!

There is hardly anything more pleasing in a personal career than the moment, when you get the chance to return to the subject of your education and research career after so many years. Following my studies in telematics, the Silicon Alps Cluster actually feels like coming home with a variety of tasks. Not without deep respect, however, in view of some of the greatest global challenges of the century. And I’m confident to say, the greatest hopes rest on those technologies that are being developed and promoted in the Silicon Alps region. There are unbelievable opportunities here, which, as we know, can only be exploited together – as when faced with major challenges, the swarm is always more successful than the loner.

We have this opportunity as Europeans, but especially here in the Silicon Alps Region. This is where jobs are created and researchers and specialists are even more specialized and skills promoted and trained that will be most urgently needed in the next few years. This is where lighthouse projects are created and further developed, for which massive investments have recently been made. Ultimately, a strong Silicon Alps region also drives the entire industry forward.

I am also particularly looking forward to the task of further expanding the bridge between the federal states of Carinthia and Styria, because, due to my past, I am already very familiar with both business locations and with many of the partners and their sectors. It is important for me and my new team to continue to unite both economic, research and ecosystems, because an overarching economic area can make the best possible use of the opportunities and, moreover, this creates huge added value for the countries, for Austria and the entire industry.

Our network is already well connected on the European level, for instance through meta-organizations such as the Silicon Europe Alliance or EPoSS and at the super-federal level ECSEL. This gives us the opportunity to actively shape the international agenda, for which we have the perfect conditions with our partners in the federal states.

The priorities for the next few years must therefore be thought closely at the people in a holistic human-centred manner. Our focus lies on the further development of the regions, the safeguarding of workers and jobs, the further development of technologies and the creation of a culture of progress, confidence and trust.

With these happy prospects, I wish all members, relatives and friends a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy year 2022!
