On Wednesday 17/01/2018, the Living Standards Awards were presented at the Austrian Standards New Year’s party. Silicon Alps member NXP was among those to receive an award.
The highlight of the event was the announcement of the winner of the internationally renowned Living Standards Award 2018. This year, the prize was awarded for the fourth time for exemplary participation in standardisation and use of standards. In selecting its five favourites, the international jury of experts placed particular emphasis on the successful, strategic application and new and further development of standards at national and international level. NXP Semiconductors Austriascored highly with the jury thanks to its efficient further development of standards. For the developer of chips for secure, contactless identification and access systems, standardisation is a core element in reaching the global market.
“That’s why we invest manpower and funding in the development and advancement of existing standards,”Paul Hubmer, Chief Technology Officer of NXP, explained at the award ceremony.
NXP Semiconductors Austria GmbH has significantly contributed to the development of NFC technology(Near Field Communication). This know-how has been incorporated into several standards.
As early as 2001, NXP was already involved in the development of the international series of standards for contactless smart cards, ISO/IEC 14443. This international standard has become the basic protocol used by all ATMs and digital identification and access systems that are used for contactless communication. New technologies and requirements for end products made it necessary to continuously develop this standard. Today, almost all smartphones are equipped with NFC technology.
The Silicon Alps Cluster team offers hearty congratulations!
