Award for unleaded photovoltaics
On 3 May, the award presentation of the Carinthian Energy Globe Award took place. The winner in the category “Earth“ is the cooperative research topic „unleaded photovoltaics“ of CTR – Carinthian Tech Research and AIT Austrian Institute of Technologies.
Winner “Earth”
It is deeply impressing when cooperation partner from industry and research sector work together on a sustainable solution to achieve unleaded photovoltaics and make electricity by sun even greener.
The research teams of CTR Carinthian Tech Research and das AIT Austrian Institute of Technology set the objective to develop the next generation of photovoltaic cells and modules. Their aim was to produce a lead-free PV-module to become more eco-efficient and make recycling more sustainable.
Due to this new technology about 80 tons of lead could be reduced just in Austrian PVs at 940 MegaWattpeak (MWp) combined with an increase of 1,7 percent uprating. The first photovoltaic system using this technology is installed in Villach shows the innovative power of the local research institutions and companies.
