Silicon Alps Master Mind!

Following my studies in telematic in Graz, Paris and Brisbane and my dissertation in the field of applied cryptography, I started  my career as project manager in the area of software development at Emerson Network Power. Three years later I changed to NXP Semiconductors, where I have been international product and marketing manager in the field of RFID Smartcards and a strong focus on east asia.

The next step took me to ASSA ABLOY, the leading company for high-quality products and multi-purpose systems of „Door Opening Solutions“. I was responsible for a business volume of app. 300M$ and employees on three continents and gained so much experience. Additionally I had the possibility to establish an international network in the microelectronic sector.

Following the years of travelling across the globe, I got the chance to go back to Austria and become the Managing Director of Silicon Alps Cluster.

I want to generate additional value for the microelectronic sector and I am looking forward to successfully work together with our partners to establish the business location in southern Austria as an international hotspot.

Mag. Christian Philipp

Director of Marketing and Communiations

Through my studies of theatre, cinema, and media sciences, I got a brought theoretical knowledge, which I wanted to implement in practice. My strong interest in technology guided me to science and research and so I produced movies and created campaigns as a freelancer for big publishing houses and American IT companies.

In 2009 my way led me to Carinthia. There I established the communication strategy of the research network Lakeside Labs and got deep insights in the fields of research, project management, and knowledge transfer. So, I could stay in the field of excellence in technology and started working at Infineon Technologies as a communication specialist in the area of media relation.

Since February 2017, I act as Director of Marketing and Communications at Silicon Alps Cluster GmbH. Here I am responsible to push the strategic development of the business location.

I am currently coordinating the participation of the cluster in the cooperative projects and the activity of the cluster focus groups:

  • Sub Systems & Integration
  • Advanced Manufacturing
  • Cleanroom Technology.

A former research project manager at IRSOP Bucharest (a Romanian public opinion research institute), I completed my doctoral studies at the University of Bucharest (2002) and Darmstadt University of Technology (2005).
Between 2005-2011 I had worked at IFZ – Inter-University Research Centre for Technology, Work, and Culture, Graz/Institut für Technik und Wissenschaftsforschung Klagenfurt, being responsible for project acquisition and coordination, teaching in the field of Science and Technology Studies, and qualitative/quantitative research about the sustainable design and usage of information and communication technologies.

2011 I switched to the Technical Faculty of the Alpen-Adria University Klagenfurt, working in various projects such as Rapid Prototype, Emotion Recognition (FFG Innovation Check) and CASA VECCHIA (FFG, benefit). As a member of the “Casa Vecchia” project team at the University of Klagenfurt (2011-2014) I have contributed to the psychological and sociological research about the interaction of older users in rural areas with Ambient Assisted Living Systems.

Since 2006 I’ve been also teaching at the University of Klagenfurt about the societal impact of smart system technologies, with a strong focus on mobility and autonomous technologies.

After studying journalism and communication science at the University of Klagenfurt and spending some time abroad, I worked in the marketing department of Lindner Recycling Tech. In this internationally operating company, I was responsible for PR and worldwide trade fair organisation. Already during my studies, I was able to gain experience in marketing at federWild, an agency for new media, and to implement joint projects with the WKK and ORF Carinthia.

I’ve been project manager at Silicon Alps since February 2018. Besides my work for the cluster, I am the official ambassador for Startup Europe in Austria and I work with seven other partners from Germany, France and Spain on the Horizon 2020 project Scale-EUp2. With my work on this project, I get an overview of the startup scene, especially in the area of the Internet of Things, in order to act as a multiplier in the Austrian startup ecosystem and to actively and purposefully support startups.

I studied Business Administration at the Alpen-Adria University Klagenfurt. I chose myself 3 special areas:  Marketing, Controlling and also Innovation. Additionally I worked in the area of project management at private sector companies where I was able to contribute the latest findings of my university knowledge, especially in the field of innovation.

After finalization of my studies I went to Graz where I worked for a major regional trading company in a management position. As a Trade Marketing Manager at Uniopt I strengthened my skills in Project Management and Marketing in the B2B sector. After careful consideration, I decided to take the next career step and changed to the  headquarters of the chain manufacturer Pewag. In this position I managed the inhouse advertising department and was responsible for diverse international marketing activities as well as for project- and process management.

Since June 6th, 2017 I am part the Silicon Alps Cluster team. My responsibilities are Project Management and Marketing at the office of Graz. I’m very glad to support proactively the cluster’s and its partners’s goals!

Romana Höberl, BSc. MSc.

After completing my studies in health and nursing science, focusing on management, my career started with costumer acquisition and promotion for a local newspaper publishing company for about two years.
Afterwards, I began working at the medical university in Graz. For more than 4 years I was responsible for the organizational and operational support of postgraduate courses of studies.
By the end of 2017 I started a further training to become a certified project manager. After successfully completing this training my career path led me to the field of microelectronics.

Since August 2018, I am part of the Silicon Alps Cluster Gmbh, where I work as a project manager and executive assistant.

Born in Carinthia, I started my career 1995 after staying abroad in Boston. The next six years I worked in several sectors on different positions before I changed to the Alpe-Adria University Klagenfurt. There I was responsible for the teaching and school development program IMST and decided to start studying business administration with focus on taxes, financing, project management and law.

10 years and several additional trainings later, I chanced to the banking sector to Hypo-Alpe-Adria-Bank International AG, in the Group Task Force Rehabilitation (now Heta) and then to BKS Bank AG. There I passed my banking exam and was responsible for project management, interface management, event management and controlling.

Since January 2017 I act as project and event manager at Silicon Alps Cluster, here I am responsible for the project HR & training „Electronic 2020“.
